University of Cape Town Student & Registrar Teaching
Dr Hosking has been made an honoury lecturer in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Groote Schuur Hospital.
Dr Hilton, as head of the Orthopaedic Oncology unit, gives regular lectures to the Orthopaedic registrars training at Groote Schuur and Red Cross Children's Hospitals. These lectures are streamed over Adobe Connect to other teaching hospitals around South Africa.
He also gives weekly tutorials to the senior registrars on individual tumour topics.
In addition to teaching registrars he participates in the teaching of intermediate oncology topics for medical officers at New Somerset, Victoria and Mitchell's Plain Hospitals.
Cadaver courses are arranged annually to teach surgical techniques pertinent to Orthopaedic Oncology and the use of the common implants used.
Publications & Ongoing Research
Dr Hilton sits on the editorial board of the South Africa Orthopaedic Journal as Section Editor for Orthopaedic Oncology.
He is also involved with many ongoing research projects regularly submitting proposals to the Departmental Research Committee at Groote Schuur Hospital and the Human Research Ethics Committee. Their articles are aimed at both local and international audiences.

Advanced Techniques in Pelvic Surgery 2017
Location: Leiden, Netherlands.
Excellent faculty of Oncology surgeons from around the world speaking on current thoughts and practices in Orthopaedic Oncology and revision arthroplasty. The course also offered a cadaver session during which dissection and implant use was demonstrated and practiced. Computer navigation for the improved accuracy of resection was taught and new instruments displayed.
EMSOS (European Musculoskeletal Oncology Society)
EMSOS 2017 - Budapest, Hungary (Dr Hilton)
Located a stones throw away from the impressive Danube this conference gathered the very best surgeons from around Europe. It boasted interesting posters with Brazil putting in a good showing. Instructional courses were plentiful and given by prominent surgeons from Birmingham and London.
EMSOS 2018 - Amsterdam, Netherlands (Dr Hilton)
A wonderful meeting that was well organised and showcased excellent talks on the latest innovations and treatment strategies on a range of Oncology topics. It was well attended by many leaders in the Sarcoma field from all over Europe.
ISOLS International Society of Limb Salvage 2017
ISOLS 2017- Kanazawa, Japan (Dr Hilton & Dr Hosking)
A fantastic location and well run conference showcasing the very best of Japanese culture. A much bigger meeting than the European one earlier in the year, with a multitude of talks detailing various techniques of limb salvage with discussion around results and ways to improve the treatment of patients.
ISOLS 2019 - Athens
The conference in Athens was an excellent one as usual. It was good to renew old friendships and discuss topical subjects and listen to new research. Dr Hosking presented a paper on distal tibial replacements and Dr Hilton presented on total talar replacements. Both papers were well received.
